Editorial Standards and Policy
Effective Date: October 2026
Before a post goes live on HomeHackery.com, it has to meet a short list of standards. It has a clear purpose. It gives readers something useful they can apply in their own home. Its facts, measurements, and product details have been researched and checked. It is accurate, well organized, and properly credited, and a person has reviewed it before publishing. The rest of this page shows how that works.
What We Stand For
HomeHackery is a home decor blog built on a simple idea: a good-looking home shouldn’t require a huge budget or a design degree. Our goal is to give you ideas and instructions you can trust, whether you’re repainting a hallway, styling a shelf, or choosing a rug.
Accuracy matters to us even when the topic seems low-stakes. A wrong paint quantity or a bad measurement costs you money and a weekend. So we research carefully, check our claims, and only publish what we can stand behind.
From Idea to Published Article
Every article on HomeHackery follows the same path:
- Topic selection. We start with what readers need. That comes from questions in comments and emails, seasonal needs, and search intent, meaning what people are actually trying to solve when they search for something like “small bathroom storage ideas.”
- Research. We gather information on the topic, including techniques, materials, product specifications, price ranges, and what manufacturers and credible publications say.
- Drafting. The article is outlined around the reader’s problem and built into a full piece with clear steps, honest trade-offs, and practical detail.
- Fact-checking. Measurements, quantities, specs, prices, dates, and names are checked against their sources.
- Editorial review. A person reads the whole piece for accuracy, clarity, usefulness, and tone, and revises anything that falls short.
- Formatting and image sourcing. Headings, lists, and images are added, and images are sourced and credited as described on our image sourcing page.
- Final review. The finished post is read once more, links are tested, and anything unclear is fixed.
- Publishing. Only then does the article go live.
The Final Quality Gate
Every article on HomeHackery goes through human editorial review before it is published. Nothing skips this step.
HomeHackery is a small operation and does not have a separate editor or editorial board. The review is done by the person who runs the site. We would rather be upfront about that than pretend to be a larger newsroom. What you can count on is that a real person is responsible for every page and answers for it.
How We Research
Home decor is a practical subject, so our research relies on practical sources. Depending on the article, that can include:
- Manufacturer and brand documentation. Spec sheets, installation guides, care instructions, and safety information come straight from the company that makes the product.
- Established publications and trade resources. For design principles, materials, and techniques, we consult respected home, design, and building publications.
- Professional guidance. For projects involving specialized skills, we look to published advice from tradespeople and designers, such as painters, carpenters, and interior designers.
- Reader questions and feedback. What readers ask and report back often shows us what needs a clearer answer.
We don’t claim to have personally tested every product or method we write about. Our articles are built on research, and we are clear about that.
Checking Sources
We verify information against more than one credible source. Where possible, we prefer primary sources over secondary ones. For a product, that means the manufacturer’s own documentation rather than a retailer’s summary. For a technique, it means established trade guidance rather than a claim repeated on social media.
In home decor, credible sources include official manufacturer information, safety and building guidance from recognized authorities, and the published work of experienced professionals and respected publications. If we can’t verify a claim, we leave it out.
How We Fact-Check
Every article is fact-checked before it is published. The check covers:
- Measurements, quantities, and calculations
- Prices and product availability
- Product specifications and materials
- Statistics and figures from outside sources
- Quotes and where they came from
- Names, brands, and dates
- Anything time-sensitive, such as sale periods or seasonal trends
If a number or claim can’t be traced to a reliable source, it gets corrected or removed.
Our Standards for Home Projects
Every HomeHackery article is backed by thorough research and checked against credible sources. Decor ideas are meant to inspire and inform, and your space, tools, and skill level will shape your results.
For projects that involve electrical, structural, or plumbing work, we point readers to the manufacturer’s safety instructions and recommend qualified professionals.
How We Use AI Tools
AI tools may be used at HomeHackery to assist with research and to improve quality, clarity, readability, and grammar. Anything surfaced during research is checked against credible sources before it is used.
AI is not used to automate publishing, and it is not used to produce low-effort content. Every piece of content goes through human editorial review and fact-checking before it is published.
What Every Published Article Meets
Before an article goes live on HomeHackery.com, it should have:
- A clear purpose and a specific reader problem it helps solve
- Original value, such as practical tips, honest trade-offs, or a clearer explanation than readers will find elsewhere
- Supporting research for its claims
- A clear structure that is easy to follow and scan
- Accurate, fact-checked information
- Useful images that illustrate the content
- Proper attribution for sources, images, and ideas that come from others
Author Standards
HomeHackery is a small, focused site. The author brings dedicated research to every article and a genuine interest in home decor. If we ever work with contributors, we will choose people with relevant knowledge of decor, DIY, or design, and their work will go through the same review as everything else. We don’t invent credentials or list expertise nobody has.
Editorial Independence
What we recommend is separate from how we earn money. Advertising, affiliate links, sponsorships, and brand partnerships do not decide which products we feature, which ideas we recommend, or what we say about them. If a product isn’t worth your money, it doesn’t get a recommendation, no matter who offers a commission.
Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content
HomeHackery may include affiliate links and sponsored content. When it does, the relationship is clearly disclosed. Affiliate relationships do not change which products or ideas we recommend, and sponsored content is always labeled. You can find more detail on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Keeping Articles Current
Homes, products, and prices change, and our content has to keep up. We review evergreen articles regularly, typically every 6 to 12 months, to check that links still work, products are still available, and advice still holds up. Time-sensitive posts, such as seasonal roundups and trend coverage, are reviewed more often.
When we make a significant update, we may add a note or revised date so readers know the information is current. If we find a mistake ourselves, we correct it right away.
Tell Us If Something Is Wrong
Readers are often the first to notice when something has changed, and we’re grateful when you tell us. If you find an error, an outdated detail, a broken link, or anything that concerns you, write to us at contact@homehackery.com.
Include the link to the article and a short note about what you found. We read every message, and we make valid corrections promptly, typically within 72 hours. If we can’t verify the issue right away, we’ll write back and let you know where things stand.
